In celebration of Old Mutual Limited 175th anniversary in Africa and 100 years in East Africa, UAP Old Mutual Faulu Foundation partnered with Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Foundations will undertake a joint initiative to provide free COVID-19 testing for vulnerable children and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to health workers valued at Kshs 2.8Million.
The partnership commenced with a virtual signing ceremony via Microsoft Teams attended by the leadership of both organisations. Susan Omanga, the UAP Old Mutual Foundation Chairman, acknowledged the role of strategic partnerships in driving sustainable impact in the society. She further commended both institutions for providing a unique approach to the corporate response to COVID-19 pandemic. Representatives of the two Foundations thereafter proceeded to Githogoro Outreach clinic for the handover ceremony.
Speaking during the announcement, Arthur Oginga, UAP Old Mutual Group CEO reiterated the Foundation’s commitment in supporting the fight against the pandemic while emphasizing the need for continued corporate support. “We are glad to be announcing yet another initiative as UAP Old Mutual Group towards combating this pandemic. This partnership underscores our commitment to communities especially around these daunting times of the pandemic. We are glad to be partnering with Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation to drive the initiative.”
On his part, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital CEO Dr Robert Nyarango outlined the need for the continued support to frontline workers and the vulnerable communities. “Health care workers around the country are the heroes in this fight against COVID-19. While there has been a marked increase in the number of cases in the country, we believe that with such initiatives as what we are launching with UAP Old Mutual Group here today, the infection will be brought under control. As a Foundation, we are committed to providing healthcare for children and we are proud to be going the extra mile to secure their needs especially in these underprivileged settlements.”
Through the partnership, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital will offer free testing to 175 children in Githogoro slum and environs. Associated healthcare workers will be provided with disposable overall suits, aprons, protective goggles, gloves, N95 Masks and other equipment required for the programme.
“We are happy that this funding, which is part of ZAR 6M (Kshs 40M) from our parent company, Old Mutual Limited, will upscale our intervention measures towards COVID-19 initiatives across our subsidiaries in Africa”. Arthur Oginga, Group CEO UAP Old Mutual.
