We have partnered with the Kenya Wildlife Services to rehabilitate the salient sector of the Aberdare National Park.
Aberdare National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Kenya. The park covers an area of 767sqkm at an altitude of 1829 meters at the lower slopes to 4001 meters above sea level at Oldonyo lesatima being the highest peak in Aberdare ranges.
The Salient is a narrow east-ward protruding portion of Aberdare National Park covering an estimated area of 152 Km2. It provides a favorable habitat in form of permanent water supply, sufficient food plants, vegetation cover, wallows and artificial salts in the treetops lodge for several animal varieties. Due to high concentration of the wildlife in the salient area and over exploitation, the sector has become degraded over the years.
The partnership will restore the degraded area of forest within the secure fenced boundaries of the salient through tree planting initiatives and awareness creation on the importance of tropical forest conservation. Our staff joined hands with the Kenya Wildlife Services to plant a record 40,000 seedlings in the Aberdare National Park in December 2016 and June 2017.
