  • Joseph Dr. Joseph B. Wanjui Chairman

    Dr. Joseph B. WanjuiChairman

    BA Physics and Mathematics, Ohio Wesleyan University. Msc. Engineering, Columbia University.


    Dr. Wanjui has been a director within the Group since 1986 where he later became Chairman of the Board in 1998.

    His prior experience includes being the Chief Executive of East Africa Industries (which later became Unilever), chairman of CfC Stanbic Bank Limited and Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.

    Currently, Dr. Wanjui sits as chairman and Board member of a number of other Kenyan and international organizations.

    In recognition of his exemplary contributions to positive change in society, he was awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) of the Republic of Kenya.

  • Jonas Jonas Mushosho Non-Executive Director

    Bachelor of Accountancy, The University of Zimbabwe. Bachelor of Accounting Science, The University of South Africa. MBA, The University of Zimbabwe.


    Jonas has garnered vast senior managerial experience having worked in various financial positions within Old Mutual. These include, serving as the Finance Director and later as Managing Director/CEO of Old Mutual Zimbabwe from June 2009 to date.

    Currently, Jonas is the Old Mutual Rest of Africa Chief Executive Officer, a position covering 13 countries in Africa except South Africa and the Group Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Zimbabwe Limited. He also sits on various boards including the Zimbabwean Revenue Authority and Central Africa Building Society (CABS). 

    In line with his profession, Jonas is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS), a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Zimbabwe & South Africa as well as the Institute of Certified Tax Accountants in Zimbabwe (ICTA).

  • Peter Dr. Peter Muthoka Independent Non-Executive Director

    BA (Hons) Degree, University of East Africa. MA Degree, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).


    Previously, Dr. Muthoka has served as Group Chairman of Kenya Commercial Bank.

    He is now the current Chairman of the Faulu Micro Finance Bank and the UAP Old Mutual Foundation.

    Other boards that Dr. Muthoka serves as chairman include; Fellows of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and Board of Trustees of the Management University of Africa (MUA).

    Through his illustrious career, Dr. Muthoka has been a corporate leader and an entrepreneur with long and varied experience in public and private sectors in the fields of management, education, finance, investment, export promotion, agriculture, real estate, corporate governance, international diplomacy, and community voluntary work.

    In recognition of his exemplary service within the Kenyan Public Service and international organizations, the President of the Republic of Kenya awarded him with the medal of Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) in 2004 and the Medal of Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) in 2012.

  • James James Muguiyi Non-Executive Director

    Between 1988 and 2001, Mr. Muguiyi was the Deputy Managing Director at UAP Holdings. During this time, he oversaw the merger of Provincial Insurance with Union Insurance to form UAP Provisional Insurance in 1994. Mr. Muguiyi later rose to serve as Group Managing Director for UAP Holdings.

    During this period, he oversaw the growth of the Group’s business in Kenya, and the expansion into the neighbouring Uganda in 2004 and South Sudan in 2006.

    In 2008 under Mr. Muguiyi, the group restructured and he also oversaw the demerger of Life Insurance Business from General Insurance Business in Kenya.

    Currently, James is a director of several other companies, including being Chairman of Centum Investment Company Limited, a company listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

  • Paul Paul Truyens Independent Non-Executive Director

    BSc Mathematical Statistics, University of Cape Town. BA Economics, University of Cape Town. Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa. Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK).


    Paul’s experience in the Insurance industry spans to 38 years.

    He commenced his working career in 1978 as CFO and Chief Actuary, World-Wide Re (UK), a position he left in 1979. In 1980 he joined Southern Life (South Africa) as GM Product Development. He was promoted to Executive Director, CFO in 1995 & Appointed Actuary of Southern Life and subsequently rose in 1998 to become a member of the executive management team and appointed actuary of the Southern Life fund, Momentum Life. Paul served in these positions till 2001. He went on and took up an appointment as senior manager PwC Netherlands in 2002 and served as such up to 2007. In 2008 he took up a role with Metlife in Ireland as Senior Finance Actuary.

    Paul currently serves on the Board of Old Mutual South Africa, where he is chairman of the Risk Committee and of the Committee for Customer Affairs; a member of the audit committee, and on the board of OMH. He is also a non-executive director of Infrastructure Finance Corporation (INCA), where he has been on the board since its inception in 1996.


  • Susan Susan Omanga Independent Non-Executive Director

    AAS Business Management, North West Community College. Bsc Business Management with a minor in Advertising, Rocky Mountain College.


    Susan is the CEO and founder of Exclamation Marketing Ltd. She previously served in senior marketing positions at Colgate Palmolive, Boots Kenya, Barclays Bank, and Standard Chartered. From 2004 -2012 she served as a non-executive Director in the Group Board of KCB where she was also Chairman of KCB Foundation, Director S & L Mortgages for 2 years and Director KCB Uganda for 4 years.

    Susan sits on the Board of Longhorn Publishers and Kenya Tea Packers Limited (KETEPA). She is also an advisory board Member at the University of Nairobi’s Green Horn Mentorship programme, a member of the Marketing Society of Kenya, the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) and the International Advertising Association (IAA).

    Mike has previously served on the Boards of Old Mutual Unit Trust, Old Mutual Investment Group and the Council of the Botanical Society of South Africa.

    Having worked in the Old Mutual Group since 1979, Mike was appointed chairman of Mutual & Federal in May 2012.

    Over the years, Mike has served in several executive positions including Strategy Director for Old Mutual Emerging Markets, leading strategic work across Asia, Latin America, South Africa and Africa markets. He also served as Distribution Executive on the OM Group Long Term Savings executive in London.

  • Peter Peter Mwangi Group Chief Executive Officer

    BSc. Electrical Engineering, University of Nairobi. Certified Public Accountant. Chartered Financial Analyst.


    Peter joined Old Mutual Kenya as the Chief Executive in October 2014 from Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and later became the Group CEO following the merger of UAP and Old Mutual.

    At the NSE, he served as the Chief Executive Officer for 6 years. During his time at the helm of the NSE, Peter is credited with, amongst other things, the successful demutualization and self-listing of the NSE.

    Prior to this, Peter was the Managing Director of Centum Investment Company which is Kenya’s largest publicly quoted investment company. Early in his career, Peter served in the Kenya Air Force and held the rank of Captain.

  • Robert Robert Mbugua Independent Non-Executive Director

    Robert started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Kenya in 1989 and rose through the ranks to the position of Partner in June 2001, in the Johannesburg office where he served until the year 2003.

    He has worked in various capacities in the financial services sector such as Managing Director of Standard Bank from 2003 through to 2011.

    Robert joined the board with effect from July 2017. He is a qualified accountant and also chairs the BOC Gases Limited Audit Committee.

  • George George Maina Non-Executive Director

    B.Tech (Hons) Aeronautical Engineering and Design, Loughborough University of Technology.


    George began his career in Aeronautical Engineering and went on to serve in the capacity of Deputy Managing Director and Marketing Manager for the Shell Company in the Jamaica, Ghana and East Africa Markets. Through this experience, George gained expertise in various sectors including: Strategy development and implementation, Governance, Organization development/ re-engineering and capacity building, Change Management, Risk Management, Finance and Investment Management, Mergers, Acquisitions and Exits, as well as Investment banking. 

    He joined the UAP Old Mutual Group Board in May 2017, through Faulu Microfinance bank where he has served the microfinance business since 2010 and was instrumental in leading the restructuring and divestiture of the bank.

    George has held directorships in various Shell Group of Companies covering marketing, manufacturing and refining companies. He is currently a director in various companies in the Financial Service sector. He is also a member of Remuneration and Nomination committee, credit committee and strategy committee at Faulu Microfinance Bank.

  • Iain Iain Williamson Non-Executive Director

    BSc. Actuarial Science and PdG. Actuarial Science, University of Cape Town. General Management Programme graduate, Harvard Business School.


    In 1993, Iain joined Old Mutual in Employee Benefits: Risk, where he gained experience in pricing, valuation, product design, contract wording and reinsurance of Risk products.


    Williamson, In 1996, he was appointed as Manager: Actuarial Finance of Individual Life Old Mutual South Africa, and relocated to London in 1999 when he progressed to Senior Manager of Corporate Development, Old Mutual plc.  

    Later, in 2003, he moved to Cape Town after being appointed COO of Wealth Management, Old Mutual South Africa, a business consisting of a start-up institutional division and a retail division.  His responsibilities included Finance, HR, IT and Legal/Compliance functions.

    Iain became accountable for strategy, business planning, communications, and product platforms for Old Mutual South Africa Technology in 2004, when he was appointed as Head: Strategy and Product Platforms.

    He then went on to become Finance Actuary for Old Mutual South Africa in 2007, where he was accountable for the actuarial finance function for the Retail Affluent and Retail Mass Market business units, as well as for OMLACSA capital management. Then in 2009 Iain joined Retail Affluent, as General Manager: Finance, before he was promoted to Managing Director: Retail Affluent in 2011.

    He was appointed Financial Director, Old Mutual Emerging Markets in August 2015.

    From 1 January to 1 June 2017, Iain served as Interim CEO. Effective 1 September 2017, Iain was appointed Chief Operating Office of Old Mutual Emerging Markets. 

    In relation to his profession, Iain is a Fellow of Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA).


  • Vincent Vincent Rague Independent Non-Executive Director

    Vincent RagueIndependent Non-Executive Director

    Bachelor of Arts (Economics, Statistics and Government) Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Masters of Business Administration from the Darden Business School, University of Virginia.


    Vincent is a co-founder of Catalyst Principal Partners, a Nairobi based private equity fund Manager. He has over 25 years’ experience in investments, banking corporate finance and policy advisory work having worked at the National Treasury, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics, Statistics and Government) Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Masters of Business Administration from the Darden Business School, University of Virginia. He also serves as a non-executive director and chairman on several corporate boards.
