Nairobi, August 12, 2020… UAP Old Mutual General Business and Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital have partnered to provide a comprehensive medical cover for children, ranging from birth to 21 years old of age.
The medical cover dubbed ‘Afya Imara Junior’ is the first in providing a comprehensive medical cover that provides an outpatient benefit, an inpatient benefit and access to Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital and its satellite clinics.

This led us to include an outpatient benefit, which was not there before. Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital is an established paediatric hospital in Eastern and Central Africa, providing quality, affordable and accessible healthcare to children. Dr Robert Nyarango, CEO Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital said “It is partnerships such as this with UAP Old Mutual, that enable us to continue to provide comprehensive care to children in various aspects such as general paediatric consultation, Well Baby Clinics, Specialist Clinics, surgical services, inpatient services as well as outpatient facilities including pharmacy, radiology and laboratory services across our network.’
UAP Old Mutual Foundation in partnership with Old Mutual Limited is also supporting the Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation in two critical areas; Provision of protective equipment for healthcare workers and testing of COVID19 in children. This initiative aims to support prevention, screening and testing of COVID-19 for children in underprivileged communities in Nairobi and to provide personal protective equipment for frontline healthcare workers in partner hospitals. So far 171 children have been tested for COVID-19.
